Before any construction work can take place, our team needs to make sure that we can build on your property. During this stage, we also do research into local building plans to gain some of the information about your building.

After the first stage, we focus on the excavation of the site and the demolition of preexisting elements that prevent us from building.

Next is the stage where we put in the concrete footings and a concrete block is installed.

In this stage, we apply cement coat to the outside perimeter block walls of the new basement walkout. This stage is important to give strength to the structure and prevent moisture. Once dry, a tar coat or first layer of waterproof membrane is applied. Finally, the final layer of hard waterproof membrane is installed.

In order to prevent improper drainage, weeping tiles are installed at the base of new foundations. We then ensure that the drains are correctly placed. The backfill is checked to be a clean fill.

To form the landing and the steps, the basement steps are first graded and then installed onto a bed of gravel. Rebar cages are often used to reinforce the steps and landing.

The final task to complete is to install the new basement door opening as well as to conduct any other installations such as the handrails and lighting.

Some Facts About Basement Walkouts

01

A basement entrance is a great addition to the house and a convenient way to exit a basement without having to go through the main entrance. Constructing a walkout basement requires knowing some of the aspects of walkout basement engineering to make sure your house faces no danger before and after the construction.

02

One of the primary considerations is the waterproofing process that makes sure the water and possible moisture are properly drained as the walkout basements are more prone to this issue. Wet soil exerts more pressure against foundations

03

The second consideration is frost and snow. The frost makes it three to four feet down the stairwell. To minimize this risk, the construction team uses rigid insulation, and additional waterproofing materials and adjusts surface water management.
